The Amarnath Yatra is one of the holiest pilgrimages in India, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Every year, thousands of devotees undertake this spiritual journey to seek blessings at the Amarnath Cave Shrine, located at an altitude of about 3,888 meters (12,756 ft) in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir. Inside the sacred cave, a naturally formed ice Shivling is worshipped, believed to symbolize the divine presence of Lord Shiva. According to mythology, this is the place where Lord Shiva revealed the secret of immortality (Amar Katha) to Goddess Parvati.
Duration: The yatra usually takes place between June and August (Shravan month) when the cave is accessible.
Routes: Two main trekking routes – Pahalgam route (46 km) and Baltal route (14 km).
Spiritual Significance: Pilgrims chant “Bam Bam Bhole” as they trek through snow-clad mountains, glaciers, and rivers, creating a divine atmosphere.
